Trail Etiquette

Stay on the marked trails.  Most of the trails in the area are designated multi-use.  Please stay out of woods or unmarked areas for your safety and to ensure preservation of the flora and fauna.

Use open trails only. Trails may be temporarily closed for a variety of reasons. Trail users should respect all closures.

Carry out or dispose of all trash brought into the park and help keep it a beautiful place.  Leave no trace or leave it better than you found it.

Be sensitive to the terrain beneath you. Be aware of different types of soiil and trail construction. Not every trail will be suitable for all uses at all times. Wet and muddy trails are particularly vulnerable to damage.

Stewardship

Allegheny Land TrustSite Stewards are an invaluable resource for Allegheny Land Trust and provide a critical role in our conservation work as we strive toward our goal of exemplary stewardship. They increase our capacity to manage the land resources we have and enable us to focus staff time and energy on raising the funds to acquire and protect more natural area.  Tara Alexander is the site steward at Fern Hollow Greenway.  Periodically, ALT will have site stewards write observations that will be accessible here.

Fern Hollow is located within the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed, a watershed that has many active environmental organizations working to protect.  The creek, as you may know, has been identified by the state as a high-quality cold water stream; the highest quality stream in Allegheny County!  Protection of land within the watershed is critical to maintaining the water quality and the rich diversity of plants and wildlife.
