Allegheny Land Trust is intimately involved in the growth of the Emerald View Park—formerly known as the Grand View Scenic Byway.  ALT has been working closely with the Mt. Washington Community Development Council to conserve and permanently protect green space on Mt. Washington.

The Allegheny Land Trust purchased an 11.3 acre parcel in 2008 and a 13.5 acre parcel in 2010, totaling 25 acres of preserved land.  These properties, whose slope overlook the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, were transferred to the City of Pittsburgh in 2010 in the form of conservation easements.  These easements guarantee that the land will stay in its natural state forever, and that the Mt Washington hillside will remain as scenic as ever.

ALT used funds from the Heinz Endowments, the Colcom Foundation, Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation, The Pittsburgh Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and members of the community of Mt. Washington to purchase the land.
