Aerial view of city side of Emerald View Park
and Mt. Washington.
The Emerald View Park is located within a Peregrine Falcon Biological Diversity Area. Peregrine Falcons require cliff faces for nesting, which can be found all around Mt Washington.
The “Emerald Link” project’s environmental benefits include slope stabilization, water quality and flood management, and the promotion of biodiversity in the area. Perhaps the most obvious benefit, however, is the fact that it will remain a permanent green space, and will continue to provide the city with a beautiful wooded riverfront.
Mount Washington is known for its spectacular views of the city, and the Emerald View Park sets the scene for that view, with the trees rolling down and exploding into a magnificent city skyline.
The Emerald View Park as a whole consists of a 257-acre ring of green space, which runs along the Monongahela River with the Grandview Park, the Saddle, and the Grandview Overlook Park. When the Link reaches Route 51, it turns south, and wraps back around to the east, circling Mount Washington, with the Duquesne Heights Greenway, Olympia Park and Chatham Village, and Mount Washington Park.
