Highlights of Bradford Woods Reserve
The borough of Bradford Woods acquired this parcel of land in 1995 and made it a nature reserve. Prior to its acquisition by the borough, the land had been used for other purposes.
In the early 1920’s, until 1981, this land was home to a greenhouse and horticultural center. While there are no longer any physical remnants of this, there are still some signs of its existence.
There is a Scotch pine forest on the property that was initially planted for Christmas trees, which has since grown into a very dense forest. Efforts have recently been made to safely remove some of these trees in order to make room for a more hardwood forest to grow.
Other highlights include the pond that is stocked by a local volunteer, allowing for recreational fishing.
The Bradford Woods Elementary School is located less than a quarter-mile to the south of the reserve.
