Audubon Greenway Grant Received
We are pleased to announce that Allegheny Land Trust’s hard work has paid off. We have raised all but a few thousand dollars towards our our goal of $1.4 Million to purchase an additional 51 acres in the Audubon Greenway in the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed. (View a topographical map of the Audubon Greenway) Thanks to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Pittsburgh Foundation, Laurel Foundation, W.P. Snyder Foundation and contributions from hundreds of individuals from the community this land will be protected as permanent greenspace. The closing is scheduled for December 20 so there is still time to make a year end tax-deductible contribution and share the satisfaction of knowing you helped to save this wonderful landscape. You may do so on-line through Click & Pledge.
It is important to protect this property as permanent green space because it provides the community with a host of benefits including scenic beauty and stormwater management. The open meadows and woodlands absorb heavy rainfall, reducing flood frequency while providing wildlife habitat and recreational hiking trails.
Were it not for Allegheny Land Trust acquiring the property, up to 500 townhouses could have been developed, causing significant impact to the traffic, community character and to Little Sewickley Creek.
